About our services
-
What conditions do you treat?
We are ready when you need us to handle a range of non-life threatening conditions including:
- fevers, respiratory conditions and gastro.
- breaks, sprains, tears and wounds.
- superficial burns.
While our medical and nursing teams all have extensive emergency department experience, if you do have a medical emergency such breathing difficulties, uncontrolled bleeding, the patient is seizing or unconscious- please call 000 for immediate ambulance assistance.
-
What services DON'T you provide?
To ensure we can provide a consistent, high level of urgent care services, we have limited the scope of what we do.
We don't provide:
- mental health or substance abuse support.
- vocational related services such as pre-employment testing.
- workers compensation or vehicle insurance claims.
Children's and adolescent mental health is an area that needs significantly more resources across the entire state. We will continue to review how we may be able to be part of the solution in the future.
-
Do you treat adults?
Kinkaya Urgent Care is the first clinic of it's kind in WA.
We have designed the facilities and attracted a medical and nursing team with extensive paediatric experience to specifically deliver excellent care for young people.
We will of course assist anyone in need who presents at Kinkaya, however our experience is specifically geared towards kids and young adults.
-
Do I need an appointment?
Kids don't get sick or injured on a schedule so we are here to help when you need it.
Kinkaya Urgent Care is open from 8am to 10pm daily, every day of the year.
-
Do you offer Telehealth appointments?
In general no. This is because a child's assessment is much different to an adult.
Kids, especially very young ones, aren't very good at explaining their symptoms so we need to use a lot more objective tests and observations to assess their condition which at this stage needs to be done in-person.
Their condition can also change rapidly in a short period of time so we like to keep kids in our care while treating them.
We do use phone and Telehealth as part of our follow up processes.
About our pricing
-
What do you charge for follow-ups?
Follow-up appointments related to a standard initial presentation are included.
However, if your treatment was more complex and required additional care, there will likely be additional costs:
Respiratory Care
If your child needs to spend additional time in observation and receive additional medications the Respiratory Care fee of $75.00 will be applied.
Fracture Management
If your child needs to be re-cast or changed into different immobilisation devices (such as a moon boot), the Breaks Care fee of $75.00 will be applied.
Burns Management
If you choose to have burns managed by us, the review and dressing fee per visit will start from $115.00 per visit.
Our team will discuss your burns management plan and costs with you during your first visit so you can be clear on costs and alternative options.
-
Will I get anything back from Medicare?
Yes, Medicare Card holders will receive the relevant rebates based on the range of services that are provided during treatment.
For a standard consultation, your maximum out of pocket cost will be $152.15.
-
Why don't you bulk bill?
There is simply too much of a gap between the current Medicare rebates and the costs related to the amount of time, staffing and resources required to provide the level of service we offer.
What we have done however, is look closely at what it does cost to consistently deliver the level of care required for our patients and set our pricing in line with this.
If rebates are increased, more will be returned to you rather than just ramping up our costs in-line with increases.
-
What if I don't have a Medicare Card?
Costs for a standard consult do not change for Non-resident/Non-Medicare Card Holders.
It is still $195.00 for an initial consult.
Prices do change for some of our additional services though.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding Non-resident/Non-Medicare Card holder fees.
-
What will it cost to manage burns?
Burns management and the specialised dressings required to provide the best potential outcomes are expensive.
We charge an additional $95 on top of your initial consult fee for burns management.
Follow up visits will then have an up-front cost starting at $115.00.
As the specialised dressings are very expensive (one layer of the dressing is $40 for a 5x5cm piece) we will need to charge according to the size of the burn area. The maximum charge being $195.00 per visit.
We will discuss our recommended treatment plan with you during the initial consultation to ensure you understand what will be required in your specific case and the options available to you for treatment.
You will receive a level of Medicare rebate on each return visit but likely no more than $31.00.
Please note:
Burns that cover more than approx 2% of total skin area, have burnt through the top skin layers or involve the fingers generally will be referred directly to the emergency department to be handled by the burns unit.
